Hello and welcome to the new EEEA Blog site. The inaugural topic of this blog is the retirement incentive that EUSD has put forward for eligible teachers to consider. Several of you have requested a forum for discussion for those who are considering the district's offer of between $15,000 and $20,000, depending on the number of retirees who sign up.
Please be respectful of opinions that may differ from your own. Your EEEA leadership team hopes this helps serve as one tool to help you make your decision.

An incentive would be one year salary spread out over the next 5 years. The district offer is not an incentive. Nice for those already retiring though.
ReplyDeleteI don't know that what is being offered is much of an incentive to retire for people. Doesn't matter much for me I guess as I am no where near retirement.
ReplyDeleteAnother thought ... the looming salary cuts may be a hidden incentive for current teachers to retire as their salary in their last years of teaching dictates retirement $. Salary cuts in the last years of teaching will reduce retirement for the rest of your life.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is an incentive at all. It is far too low of an offer especially when other districts are offering much more. If the district truly wanted teachers to retire to lessen the amount of teachers that would need to be let go they would offer a substantial amount of money. It is another poor attempt on their behalf.
ReplyDeleteIf the district REALLY wanted to retire higher priced teachers, then they would have offered a retirement package that wasn't so laughable! This is another example of poor consideration for those who are facing lay offs in 2010. The district administrators are cutting off their noses to spite their faces. What a waste of good teaching talent of the younger teachers in view of the fact that the district office has a 30% reserve sitting at the County Office of Ed. The students, parents, and teachers are being hoodwinked by the administration. There is plenty of money in the account and NO NEED to lay off teachers this year!
ReplyDeleteI have noticed the district office has the latest in technology toys, though. Hmmmm. My SCHOOL doesn't!!!!
