The EEEA Board of Directors and the EEEA Representative Council have unanimously approved a proposal for a $3/month dues increase to take affect for the 2011-2012 school year, followed by an additional dues increase of $3/month to take affect for the 2012-2013 school year. This increase, combined with operating budget cuts in excess of $60,000 will allow us to maintain and build on the services we currently provide members. All dues resulting from this change will go exclusively to the EEEA the operation of our local Association.
According to the EEEA bylaws this must be put forward for a vote by all EEEA members. This will take place in February. Site Reps are prepared to answer questions in order to facilitate clear and accurate communication. Please discuss and post comments below.
We're getting pay cuts and your board of directors have approved a raise in dues! That's ridiculous! I'll vote NO. I'm seriously considering the option of not contributing to the dues that go to several special interests groups and bills I don't agree with. Ask CTA and NEA to stop sending out worthless magazines that clog our mailboxes and give it back to our local unions. I'm disappointed that the increase would even be considered now that we have to pay for medical insurance. This is awful and upsetting.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I like my nose and my face. But if I was mad at my face, I wouldn't cut off my nose to spite my face! There are some who are anti-union and always will be. But think back to the climate the district has created the past few years - where would you be now without your union? I will proudly support my union with a dues increase. The time to ask for a raise in dues is not when times are good - that's when we need our union the least. The time to ask for a raise in dues is now - when we need our union to be its strongest.
